“One man’s ‘magic’ is another man’s engineering” – Robert Heinlein

Brigadier General (Ret)
J. Richard Capka, PE

At Dawson & Associates, we’re naturally proud of everyone on our team.  But it’s especially gratifying when an organization known for its high standards publicly recognizes one of our members.

The American Society of Civil Engineers is America’s oldest national engineering society and represents more than 145,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide.  This year, ASCE recognized Rick Capka, our Chief Operating Officer, with ASCE’s 2014 Outstanding Projects And Leaders (OPAL) Award in the management category.

ASCE presented its award to Rick as a testament to his lifetime of success in the engineering and management fields.  A Professional Engineer who rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rick’s career has spanned more than 40 years.  He is a member of ASCE’s Industry Leaders Council, which ASCE set up to identify trends and promote innovation and quality in the built and natural environments.

Rick has also served on ASCE’s “Report Card for America’s Infrastructure” Advisory Committee. From 2006 to 2008, he was Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration.

Established in 1999, the OPAL Awards recognize and honor outstanding civil engineering leaders for their lifetime accomplishments and achievements.

Congratulations, Rick!  Once again, we’re incredibly proud of you and honored that you’re a part of our team!
